Instructions for Planting Alaska Lawn Mix
May 1st 2026
The Arctic Gro Lawn Mix is formulated for our Alaskan soils and temperatures, blended locally at Alaska Mill and Feed.
It is a blend of fescues and Kentucky varieties that make a thick, lush, green lawn that stands up to foot traffic.
This seed blend takes a minimum of 14-21 days to germinate.
This is dependent on both soil temperature and weather.
Follow These Instructions!
1. Have at least 4-5 inches of good top soil leveled. Apply prilled limestone at the rate of 50LBS per 1,000 square feet for a new lawn and apply 15LBS to 20LBS per 1,000 square feet of arctic gro 8-32-16 starter fertilizer.
2. Mix the limestone and fertilizer into the top soil with a rake
3. Roll the area with a lawn roller
4. Rake and level again
5. Repeat steps #3 and #4 until area is firm and level
6. Spread 3-5LBS per 1,000 square feet of Alaska lawn mix. Sow in different directions for even distribution. A cross pattern is desirable.
7. Lightly rake the seed into the soil
8. Keep area moist. This is very important. Use a fine mist to avoid washing away seed.
9. Cut grass when it is 3-4 inches tall. Cut down to 2 inches
10. After two or three cuttings, fertilize with a maintenance fertilizer such as Arctic gro 22-11-11 at a rate of 5LBS per 1,000 square feet. Water heavily after fertilizing.
