How it Works
After you add your worms and organic waste to the bottom tray, the worms will start processing the food into compost. Once you finish filling the bottom tray, add the next level tray and start filling that one. Eventually, the worms will migrate upward to the newer food source and leave the bottom tray full of nutrient-rich compost.
As a bonus, the process of breaking down waste produces moisture which will filter to the bottom of the system with the nutrient-rich particles. This creates the added benefit of being able to harvest organic liquid fertilizer right from the spigot.
And the best part? The Worm Factory 360 is simple to put together and easy to maintain. In fact, managing your compost takes less than 15 minutes per week!
Adding Food & Waste
Add everyday household waste by removing the lid and tossing the food in. You can use Vegetables, grains, fruits, eggshells, coffee grounds, paper, leaves, and other compostable goods. Foods to avoid are dairy, meat, and citrus items. They can be harmful to the worms and are difficult to compost. Ideally, your food will include 50% food scraps and 50% fiber and paper. This will create the optimal environment for worms and a well-balanced compost.
Don’t worry about feeding the worms every day. Some people feed them a handful a week; some feed them a handful a day. The general rule is that worms will eat about half their weight in food per day. So, if you have 1lb of worms, then know they can consume half a pound of food per day. And, it's possible for worms to survive as long as two weeks without any additional food. If you go on a long vacation, give them an extra bit of food just to be safe.
As for population control, know that worms will grow to fit their living space without over or under populating. The most important note to remember is that they are living creatures and can’t tolerate extreme temperatures. Ideally, you want the Worm Factory 360 to be stored in a place between 40 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Think about the temperature where you would be comfortable. And keep in mind that the Worm Factory 360 should not be placed in direct sunlight.
